Many, many accidents unfortunately are SMIDSY’s (Sorry Mate I Didn’t See You) they can be avoided with a bit of planning and anticipation.

Hi, I used to do a bit of motorcycle instruction in Melbourne Australia and you are so spot on about how to handle this situation, space cushions (that buffer from the lorry) and speed adjustment approaching the intersection covered, brilliant! I see to many hiding behind a car then popping out into drivers vision when the driver of the car has committed to the turn.
